BGB foils push-in attempt at Kushtia border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) foiled an attempt to push an unidentified man into Bangladesh through Daulatpur border in Kushtia, while the Border Security Force (BSF) fired several rounds of bullet and detonated sound grenades in a separate incident on the same day.

Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commander of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), said, “When an attempt was made to push a person into Bangladesh through the Daulatpur border, BGB members foiled it. Later, the issue was discussed with the BSF through a flag meeting and the person was taken back into Indian territory.”

According to BGB and local sources, members of BSF's 146 Battalion from arsaripara Camp tried to force the unidentified man into Bangladesh at a point about 120 yards inside India from international border pillar 152/10-S.

Local people noticed the incident and informed members of the Jamalpur Border Outpost (BOP) of the BGB.

Following the information, BGB members deployed in Jamalpur BOP area took up a vigilant position along the border with assistance from local residents.

When BGB members resisted the attempt, BSF personnel retreated and eventually took the man back into Indian territory by river.

Later in the evening, a flag meeting was held between the border forces of the two countries. Following the meeting, the BSF took the man back into India at night.

Meanwhile, another incident occurred at around 4:30am in Ashrayan BOP area of Daulatpur.

According to sources, several Indian drug traffickers entered an area about 150-200 yards inside India from border pillar 154/2-S for drug trafficking and came face-to-face with a patrol team of the BSF's 146 Battalion from the New Uday Camp.

At one point, BSF members detonated sound grenades and fired several rounds of gunshots.

The drug traffickers then fled the area. No casualties were reported.

A flag meeting between the border forces of the two countries was also held over the incident.

Following the incidents, BGB patrols and surveillance have been strengthened along the border to prevent any untoward situation, said Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal.
