Bangladesh, South Korea discuss deeper cooperation ahead of state minister’s Seoul visit

South Korean Ambassador Kim Ji-joon met Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, with the two sides discussing ways to further strengthen bilateral relations, including trade, investment, technology and development cooperation.

During the meeting, Kobir said Bangladesh attaches great importance to its longstanding relations with South Korea and highlighted growing cooperation in trade, investment, development cooperation, human resource development and technology.

The two sides also discussed Kobir’s upcoming visit to South Korea, where he is expected to hold meetings with senior Korean officials and representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

During the visit, the state minister is expected to convey an invitation from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the President of South Korea to visit Bangladesh.

Kobir said his visit would create opportunities for further engagements between the two countries. Ambassador Kim welcomed the initiative to convey the invitation personally, describing it as a positive step towards strengthening bilateral ties.

The state minister also welcomed the conclusion of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), expressing hope that the agreement would contribute to expanding bilateral trade and investment.

The two sides discussed opportunities to attract greater Korean investment in Bangladesh, particularly in technology, artificial intelligence, shipbuilding, electronics and other high-value and technology-intensive sectors.

Ambassador Kim expressed appreciation for the growing Bangladesh-South Korea partnership and reiterated Seoul’s interest in further expanding bilateral cooperation.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening relations and broadening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
