BFIU asks banks to provide account information of Salman Muqtadir

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) on Wednesday asked all banks to provide information on the bank accounts of popular actor and content creator Salman Muqtadir.

A senior BFIU official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the matter to Daily Waadaa. The official said the request was marked as “high priority”.

In an email sent to banks at 11:46am, seen by Waadaa, the financial intelligence agency instructed banks to collect and provide Salman's account information, account opening forms, know-your-customer (KYC) documents, transaction statements and other relevant records within on hour.

Banks were also asked to fill in an attached Excel file with all available information on his accounts, including details of interest income and tax deducted at source (TDS) for each identified account.

It also directed the banks to maintain the confidentiality of the information, citing the relevant provision of a BFIU circular.

The directive came after Salman’s BrownFish Studio, located inside the New Gini Properties project at ECB Chattar, was vandalised and looted during a large-scale attack on Saturday night.

The attack drew widespread criticism and condemnation from across society.

Police have so far arrested six people in connection with the incident.
