No edible oil price hike without proper review, says Commerce Minister

Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir on Wednesday said the government will not allow any increase in edible oil prices without properly examining traders’ demand.

“Although traders are demanding an increase in edible oil prices, the government will take a well-considered decision after examining the matter,” he told journalists after inaugurating riverbank protection work at Kanishail on the right bank of the Surma River in Sylhet Sadar upazila, according to a press release.

The riverbank protection work is being implemented under a project titled “Development of the Surma-Kushiyara River Basin and Flood and Integrated Water Resources Management”.

Replying to a question about whether the country’s overall law and order situation could hamper investment, the minister said the government is closely monitoring the situation to ensure that it does not affect domestic or foreign investment.

The government is attentive to maintaining an environment conducive to investment, he added.
