Gazette for 46 dropped BCS candidates to be published Monday: Home minister
The government will publish the gazette for 46 BCS candidates who were excluded despite being recommended by the Public Service Commission (PSC) next Monday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Thursday.
He made the announcement at a press briefing at his office.
Salahuddin said the PSC had declared 665 candidates successful, but eight failed their medical examinations, leaving 657 candidates eligible for appointment.
“No discrimination was made on the basis of political identity,” he said, adding that the gazettes were being issued in phases.
He said one of the candidates who had threatened to die was a member of a banned political party. “If there is any allegation against anyone, it is investigated,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) leaders, including Vice-President Sadik Kayem and Assistant General Secretary Mohiuddin Khan, addressed a protest in front of the university’s Central Library on Thursday.
DUCSU and various hall union leaders protested the exclusion of candidates who had passed the BCS examination on merit and qualifications and called on the government to ensure equal employment opportunities without discrimination.
They said students who pass government recruitment examinations after years of study and preparation should not lose employment opportunities because of political hostility or local conspiracies.
They said such discrimination and injustice could not be accepted, arguing that the July Revolution had taken place to end such practices.
The student leaders warned that if the current government continued what they described as politicisation, the devaluation of merit and injustice, it would face strong resistance from students and the public.
