LPG price jumps by 252 taka, 12kg cylinder now 1,837 taka
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 21 taka per kilogramme for October, pushing the price of a 12kg cylinder up by 252 taka to 1,837 taka.
The new prices will take effect from 6pm on Sunday and remain in force until further orders, according to a BERC notification issued on Sunday.
The regulator fixed the retail price of private LPG, including VAT, at 153.06 taka per kg for October, up from 132.08 taka in September.
The September rate had reduced the price of a 12kg cylinder by 13 taka to 1,585 taka.
The October increase follows a rise in Saudi Aramco’s Contract Price (Saudi CP). The average Saudi CP for propane and butane, based on a 35:65 ratio, rose to $712.50 per metric tonne in October from $647.75 in September.
The price of a 5.5kg LPG cylinder has been fixed at 842 taka for October, up from 727 taka in September, while the price of a 12.5kg cylinder has increased to 1,913 taka from 1,652 taka.
The prices of 15kg, 20kg and 45kg cylinders have been set at 2,296 taka, 3,061 taka and 6,888 taka, respectively, compared with 1,982 taka, 2,642 taka and 5,945 taka in September.
The price of autogas, mainly used in motor vehicles, has also been raised significantly.
BERC fixed the consumer-level price at 84.62 taka per litre for October, up 11.53 taka from 73.09 taka in September.
For LPG supplied through reticulated systems, the consumer price has been fixed at 149.31 taka per kg in liquid form and 0.3319 taka per litre, or 331.90 taka per cubic metre, in gaseous form.
The regulator kept the price of state-owned LPG unchanged at 776.93 taka for a 12.5kg cylinder at dealer and retailer points, under its order issued on February 23, 2026.
BERC also instructed LPG storage and bottling licensees to sell LPG to distributors at the revised post-bottling price and issue VAT invoices or delivery orders accordingly.
The latest increase comes amid reports of supply shortages and higher retail prices for LPG in parts of the country.
Despite BERC’s September-fixed price of 1,585 taka for a 12kg cylinder, consumers in some areas have been paying considerably more because of supply constraints.
