528 arrested in 24 hours across capital

A total of 528 people were arrested in separate anti-crime drives conducted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital in the last 24 hours.

The drives also led to the filing of 53 cases, said a DMP press release issued today.

According to the release, Ramna Division arrested 33 people, Lalbagh 67, Wari 75, Motijheel 53, Tejgaon 73, Mirpur 102, Gulshan 52 and Uttara 63.

The Detective Branch (DB) arrested nine people, while the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested one.

During the drives, police recovered 3.59 kilograms of cannabis, 218 yaba tablets, 2.6 grams of heroin, two knives, one bus and nine mobile phones.

They also seized 2,600 counterfeit revenue stamps and 3,356 non-judicial stamps, along with Tk 1,56,032 in cash.

Besides, police recovered adulterated medicines and cosmetics and equipment allegedly used to manufacture the products.

The seized items included 627 bottles of syrup, 6,000 capsules, 30 face washes, 310 shampoos, five kilograms of white powder, 150 empty packages and bottles for hygiene wash, 300 unlabeled syrup bottles, a capsule-filling machine, six pieces of capsule-filling equipment and two machines used for attaching labels.

The DMP said the arrests and seizures were made during separate operations in different police station areas of the capital.

Further legal action against the arrestees is underway.
