Elon Musk: ‘Starlink connecting Bangladesh!’

Updated on:

SpaceX chief Elon Musk has welcomed the launch of Starlink’s satellite-to-mobile service in Bangladesh, reposting a message from SpaceX executive Stephanie Bednarek and writing, “Starlink connecting Bangladesh!”, on Thursday.

Bednarek, SpaceX’s head of commercial sales, said the service is now connecting millions of people in Bangladesh through Starlink Mobile, providing an additional layer of connectivity in areas without cellular coverage.

“Our technology provides an additional layer of connectivity in cellular dead zones so coastal communities, remote businesses, families and travelers can stay in touch no matter where they are,” Bednarek wrote in a post on X.

Starlink also announced that its mobile service is now available in Bangladesh through an agreement with mobile operator Banglalink.

“Millions of customers can now message over apps, share location and stay connected on compatible phones in cellular dead zones,” Starlink said on X.

Banglalink recently launched the Starlink-powered satellite-to-mobile service, describing it as the first such service introduced in South Asia.

The service is designed to keep customers connected during emergencies, natural disasters and prolonged power outages when conventional mobile networks may be disrupted.

It is expected to be particularly useful for fishermen, people working at sea, travellers and communities in remote and coastal areas, including deep-sea locations within Bangladesh’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

Users can access essential apps and location services beyond the reach of conventional mobile networks with a compatible 4G phone and a Banglalink SIM.
