Civil Aviation minister visits Biman aircraft after emergency landing
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat today visited Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) to oversee the situation following the emergency landing of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft carrying 82 people.
The minister, accompanied by senior aviation officials, monitored the situation after Biman's Cox's Bazar-Dhaka flight BG436 landed safely at 3:09 pm following a technical malfunction involving its nose landing gear, according to an official press release.
The Dash 8 aircraft, carrying 78 passengers and four crew members, departed Cox's Bazar at 1:35 pm and was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 2:30 pm.
However, a malfunction in the aircraft's No. 2 hydraulic system prevented the nose landing gear from extending through the normal procedure, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency.
The pilot informed Area Control of the emergency at 2:20 pm when the aircraft was flying at an altitude of approximately 18,000 feet.
Area Control immediately notified Dhaka Tower, which initiated emergency response procedures and placed airport fire and rescue teams on high alert.
The airport authorities also made necessary preparations for aircraft marshalling and ensured coordination among the relevant operational units.
The pilot subsequently managed to extend the nose landing gear using an alternative procedure, enabling the aircraft to land safely at HSIA at 3:09 pm.
All 78 passengers and four crew members were safe following the landing, while the airport authorities took coordinated measures to ensure their safety.
Senior officials of CAAB, Biman and other airport agencies monitored the situation and coordinated the necessary emergency response measures.
