Sajek reopens to tourists after four-day restriction, 800 visit on first day
The restriction on tourist visits to Sajek Valley in Rangamati’s Baghaichari upazila was lifted on Friday after four days, with around 800 tourists visiting the popular destination on the first day of reopening.
The return of visitors has revived activity in the local economy, benefiting resorts, restaurants and transport services.
Locals said tourist visits had been suspended in recent days over security concerns and other unavoidable circumstances, leaving many visitors uncertain about their travel plans. The local administration lifted the restriction from Friday after the overall situation returned to normal.
Suparna Deb Barman, president of the Sajek Cottage-Resort Owners’ Association, said around 800 tourists arrived in Sajek on the first day after the restriction was lifted. Many visitors had already confirmed advance bookings, he added.
Local cottage, restaurant and transport operators have completed preparations to welcome tourists, Suparna said.
Toffazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sajek Police Station, said special attention was being given to security arrangements in line with the local administration’s decision.
Police and other law enforcement agencies remain alert to ensure tourists can travel around the area safely and without difficulties, he added.
The Rangamati district administration imposed the restriction on tourist visits to Sajek Valley on 11 October over security concerns linked to an indefinite road blockade on the Sajek-Dighinala road enforced by the Sajek Public Rights Protection Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association.
