A Chattogram court on Wednesday granted a seven-day remand for Mobarak Hossain Emon, alias "David Emon", a notorious Chattogram criminal, in connection with two high-profile murder cases in the city.

Five days were granted for a double-murder case under Bakalia Police Station, and two days for the murder of Sarwar Babla, a case registered at Bayezid Bostami Police Station.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrates SM Alauddin Mahmud and Md Alamgir Hossain issued the orders separately.

Mohammad Hasan Iqbal Chowdhury, deputy commissioner (Prosecution) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), told that Emon was produced before the court on Wednesday afternoon for the remand hearing.

According to court, he was brought from prison to the courthouse around 12:30pm under heavy security.

On March 30, 2025, a private car was shot in the Bakalia area, killing two people, and Emon has been identified as the primary coordinator and one of the accused in the murder case filed over the incident.

In addition, police also sought remand to interrogate him over the killing of Sarwar Babla, described as a top-tier criminal, within the Bayezid Bostami Police Station area.

Chattogram District Police had arrested Emon and three others on the night of July 29 in the Jhumjhumpur area under Kotwali Police Station in Jashore.
