Probe report in graft case against Hasina, Rehana on Jan 31
A Dhaka court on Thursday set January 31, 2027, for submitting the investigation report in a graft case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and former Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) chairman Md Nazrul Islam Mazumder over the alleged collection of 276.34 crore taka from corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.
The report was scheduled to be submitted on Thursday, but the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the investigating agency, failed to do so. Judge Shahjahan Kabir of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court then set a new date.
The ACC filed the case on September 3, 2026, under Sections 409 and 109 of the Penal Code, 1860, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
According to the case documents, Hasina and Rehana formed the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust on September 6, 1994. Hasina was named its lifetime chairperson, while Rehana was designated to serve as chairperson in her absence, according to the trust deed.
The case documents allege that the trust received 276.34 crore taka from the CSR funds of 41 banks through the influence of Hasina and Rehana and the alleged undue intervention of Mazumder, who was then chairman of the BAB.
