RMG worker killed as septic tank beneath rented room explodes in Gazipur

A garment worker was killed when a septic tank exploded beneath a rented room at a three-storey building under construction in the Nawjor area of Gazipur city on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sakib, a native of Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali.

Rajib Hossain, warehouse inspector at the Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station, said most of the construction work on the building has been completed.

Two rooms have been built directly above the septic tank on the ground floor and rented to garment workers. Sakib and several other garment workers were living in the rooms.

The septic tank suddenly exploded in on Friday morning, killing Sakib on the spot. The blast damaged the doors and windows of the rooms.

Two other people were also reportedly injured in the incident, although local residents could not provide further details.
