Home minister urges new police, Ansar officers to keep student politics out of professional life

Updated on:

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has urged newly appointed police and Ansar cadre officers to ensure that their political affiliations, if any, during their student lives do not influence their professional conduct or duties.

He made the remarks on Sunday at a briefing and introductory meeting for newly appointed officers of the 45th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police and BCS Ansar cadres at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Congratulating the newly appointed officers, the minister said their primary responsibility as members of the superior services was to maintain law and order in the state and ensure an environment conducive to the smooth functioning of all national activities.

“Administration, development, overall social security and public comfort depend to a large extent on your performance,” the home minister said.

Issuing strict instructions, the minister said the officers must always maintain discipline, abide by service rules and comply with the lawful instructions of their senior officers throughout their careers.

He also said the police and Ansar services were fundamentally different from other civil service cadres, as they operated in highly confrontational and challenging environments.

Officers in these services must respond decisively in challenging situations, while requiring intelligence, professionalism and presence of mind, he said.

The minister urged the newly appointed officers to exercise the utmost caution and sound judgment in enforcing the law. He also issued a stern warning against any abuse of power, stressing the importance of upholding the reputation of the police force.

The meeting was chaired by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manzur Morshed Chowdhury.

Inspector General of Police (in-charge) and Additional IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain and Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud addressed the meeting as special guests.

According to the ministry, 80 candidates were recommended for the BCS Police cadre and 25 for the BCS Ansar cadre in the 45th BCS examination.

Following the issuance of official notifications by the Ministry of Public Administration, 65 police cadre officers and 19 Ansar cadre officers joined the Ministry of Home Affairs on the morning of November 1, 2026.
