In the wake of the unrest in the country's garment sector, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has sat in a meeting to address the crisis.

The meeting started at 6pm at the Bangladesh Secretariat with participation of several ministers and others concerned.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, PM’s adviser and also PMO Spokesperson Mahdi Amin and Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal chief coordinator and transport leader Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas MP, attended the meeting.

Garment workers staged demonstrations and blocked roads in Dhaka and Gazipur on Sunday, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000, disrupting traffic and triggering clashes with police and vandalism.

At least 20 people, including four to five police personnel, were injured in sporadic clashes between police and RMG workers in the capital's Mirpur area as workers took to the streets to press for their demand.
