BNP announces seven-day programme to mark Revolution and Solidarity Day on Nov 7
The ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a seven-day programme to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7.
BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press conference around noon on Friday.
As part of the programme, processions will be held in Dhaka and across the country on Saturday. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the Dhaka procession in front of the party's central office in Nayapaltan. The procession will start from Nayapaltan and end at Manik Mia Avenue.
At 8:30am, Tarique will also pay tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Rizvi said there was no scope for anarchy in the country, warning that the government and the people were prepared to resist any such attempts.
“The government and the people are ready. The people themselves will resist any anarchy,” he said, adding that they would also ensure the security of the BNP's programmes on November 7.
Rizvi alleged that owners of factories linked to the Awami League were involved in creating unrest. He also claimed that provocations were coming from a neighbouring country as part of attempts to manufacture a crisis, while “fugitive forces” were carrying out various activities from hiding.
Referring to the opposition's expression of solidarity with the garment workers' movement, Rizvi described it as evidence of their alleged secret ties with fascism.
He said the labour movement's crisis had already been resolved and accused those seeking to exploit the situation of pursuing political interests.
“What is happening now is not a labour movement but fascist politics,” he said, warning that no one would benefit from attempts to exploit the situation by provoking unrest and creating tension.
