33 BGB platoons deployed across three industrial belts as labour unrest continues

Border guards stationed in Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj as authorities step up security and surveillance in major manufacturing hubs

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has deployed 33 platoons across industrial areas in Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj as authorities tighten security amid continuing garment workers' unrest over wages.

The deployment covers major manufacturing hubs, including Savar, Ashulia and Mirpur in Dhaka, where labour protests have disrupted factory operations in recent days.

In a statement on Sunday, November 8, BGB said the additional security measures were intended to maintain law and order, protect industrial facilities and prevent further disturbances.

In Narayanganj, border guards have been stationed at Shibu Market, Jalkuri, BSCIC Industrial Estate, Chashara, Kanchpur and Shimrail.

In Gazipur, personnel are deployed in Chandra, Palli Bidyut, Mouchak, Ambag, Kashimpur, Naojor, Bhogra Bypass, Gacha and Salna.

The BGB headquarters is monitoring field operations and live footage around the clock through a technology-based surveillance system.

Border guards are also coordinating with local administrations and police to respond to potential security threats.

The deployment comes amid a wave of garment workers' protests demanding an increase in the minimum monthly wage from 12,500 taka to 30,000 taka.

The unrest, which began earlier this month, has forced hundreds of factories to suspend production across major industrial zones. Clashes between protesters and law enforcement personnel have also been reported in several areas.

The government formed a six-member wage board on November 1 to review workers' pay, but demonstrations and factory disruptions have continued.

BGB said its personnel would remain deployed to protect lives and property, secure industrial facilities and maintain normal working conditions.
