Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) brought together 40 scheduled banks in Moulvibazar on Wednesday for an open credit distribution programme aimed at expanding formal financing for small entrepreneurs, farmers and low-income borrowers.

Organized under the guidance of Bangladesh Bank, the “Open Credit Distribution and Seminar 2026” was led by EBL in its role as the lead bank for Moulvibazar district.

Loan cheques were distributed to selected borrowers through participating banks during the event, which focused on improving access to finance for underserved communities and people engaged in small businesses and other professions.

The accompanying seminar discussed how greater access to formal credit could help borrowers expand businesses, generate income and increase their participation in the formal economy.

Mohammad Salekin Ibrahim, EBL’s executive vice president and head of Asset, Retail and SME Banking, attended as chief guest.

Ranjan Barman, deputy general manager at Janata Bank’s Moulvibazar area office, and Kamal Hossain, deputy general manager and chief regional manager at Bangladesh Krishi Bank, attended as special guests.

Abu Sayem Muhammad Zafar Imam, EBL senior vice president and regional head for Sylhet and Narayanganj, chaired the event.
