Bulbul urges ICC to freeze BCB funds, wants board president reinstatement: Cricbuzz
Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reinstate him as the head of BCB and freeze ICC’s financial assistance to the current board, reported Cricbuzz.
Bulbul reportedly made the request to the ICC earlier this week through a letter. In the 14-page document, Bulbul questioned the legitimacy of the current board, led by former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal.
According to Cricbuzz, the ICC notified the BCB about the letter and the current board has also sent a response to the global governing body.
The Bulbul-led BCB committee was dissolved by the National Sports Council (NSC) on April 7. The decision was taken following a probe on alleged irregularities in last October’s BCB election, where Bulbul was elected as president.
NSC also named an 11-member ad-hoc committee, led by Tamim, to run the BCB on an interim basis and hold fresh polls within 90 days.
The ad-hoc committee held the election on June 7, where Tamim was elected as the BCB president for the next four years.
Since his ousting, Bulbul has continued claiming to be the legitimate BCB president in the media, and appealed for intervention from the ICC.
On June 1, a two-member ICC delegation arrived in Dhaka and met with several directors of the Bulbul’s committee and members of the ad-hoc committee.
In a press release, the ICC said its delegation visited Bangladesh to “review developments” linked to BCB and would submit its report to the ICC board in due time.
The findings of the ICC report are yet to be made public.
