Bangladesh all out for their 3rd-lowest total in Tests against Zimbabwe

Bangladesh’s batting fell apart against Zimbabwe’s pace quartet as the visitors were bundled out for a mere 140 in the first innings inside two sessions on the opening day of the one-off Test in Harare on Sunday

Left-arm pacer Newman Nyamhuri picked up four wickets while three other pacers picked up two wickets each to bundle out Bangladesh for their third-lowest total in Tests against the opponents.

Mominul Haque was the only Bangladesh batter to get going in the innings, scoring 60 off 81 balls, while eight failed to get into double figures.

Sent into bat, Bangladesh lost opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy (two off 17) and Shadman Islam (20 off 38) in the first hour of play.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul then got together for the third wicket and took Bangladesh into the lunch break on 76-2 after 25 overs.

Soon after the play resumed, Mominul completed his half-century off 64 balls with the help of 11 fours.

But once he got caught at slip off Nyamhuri, ending the third wicket stand on 77, Bangladesh lost their next seven wickets for just 27 runs.

Shanto hobbled to 19 off 72 balls before charging down the track against Chris Evans trying break the shackles, only to get caught behind.

Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim lost his leg-stump to a brilliant yorker from Richard Ngarava, departing for nine, while Test debutants Tawhid Hridoy and Amite Hasan could add only three and four respectively.

The tailenders couldn’t add much to the total as Nyamhuri bowled Khaled Ahmed for a duck to end Bangladesh’s innings.
