Hasan delivers but Bangladesh fall behind against CA XI

Hasan Mahmud claimed a four-wicket haul but Bangladesh find themselves on the back foot after Day 2 of the three-day tour match against a Cricket Australia XI in Darwin on Friday.

Hasan took 4-42 while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz snapped up a couple of wickets each, but Teague Wyllie’s 130 off 177 balls and half-centuries from Jake Doran (76) and Kurtis Patterson (53) helped the hosts put up 355 and take a 92-run first innings lead.

Bangladesh’s plight then worsened as they lost Shadman Islam (six) and Mominul Haque (six) late in the day, both falling to Campbell Thomas, and ended the day on 19-2, still trailing by 73 runs.

The hosts had resumed the day’s play on 51-2, trailing by another 212 runs.

Hasan struck twice and Ebadot Hossain once in the morning session to reduce the CA XI to 139-5.

Then Wyllie and Doran removed Bangladesh from the driving seat with a 167-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Miraz broke the partnership by dismissing Doran. Wyllie then formed a few small partnerships with the tail and took the score past 350 before getting caught off Khaled Ahmed as the 10th batter.

On Day 1, Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s unbeaten 109 offset a poor showing from the other batters and helped them put up 263 on the board.

Off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli did the bulk of the damage, finishing with 6-83.

This is Bangladesh’s lone warm-up match before the two-Test series, beginning on August 13.

This is Bangladesh’s first Test series on Australian soil in 23 years.
