Parvez's all round show and Abdullah's 94 power Bangladesh U-23 past Malaysia

Bangladesh Under-23 crushed Malaysia by 153 runs in the opening match of their three match ODI series, with Sheikh Parvez Hossain's all round brilliance combining with a near century from Mohammad Abdullah to set up a dominant win at the Bashundhara Sports Complex on August 12, 2026.

Batting first after captain Kalam Siddiki won the toss, Bangladesh made the worst possible start, slipping to 11 for 3 inside the opening overs as both openers and the number four batter fell cheaply.

Kalam and Sharear Sakib steadied things briefly, adding 40 for the fourth wicket, but further wickets left the innings wobbling at 100 for 5.

From there, Abdullah and Ahrar Amin transformed the contest with a commanding 103 run partnership for the sixth wicket. Ahrar struck 61 from 62 balls, laced with five sixes, before Abdullah continued to press on, reaching fifty from 66 balls and looking well set for a maiden century.

He eventually fell for 94 from 100 balls, misreading an off break from Saif Ullah Malik that went straight on to bowl him, an innings built on seven fours and four sixes that left him visibly gutted after his dismissal.

Parvez then provided the finishing touches with an 18 ball 35 containing two fours and three sixes, helping Bangladesh reach 290 for 9 from their 50 overs, with 84 runs coming off the final ten overs alone.

Malaysia's chase never got going. They managed just 10 runs in the first five overs and lost their first wicket in the sixth, with regular breakthroughs leaving them reeling at 76 for 8.

A defiant ninth wicket stand of 46 between Ahmad Zubaidi Zulkifle and Syed Junaid Khan briefly delayed the inevitable, with Zubaidi top scoring for the innings on 42 before Parvez removed both set batters in successive overs to wrap up the innings for 137.

Parvez finished with figures of 5 for 16 from his off spin to complete a memorable all round display and claim the player of the match award, presented by Malaysia coach Dav Whatmore.

Maruf Mridha and Shadhin Islam took two wickets apiece for Bangladesh, with Arif Ullah the pick of the Malaysia bowlers earlier in the day with 4 wickets.

The result gives Bangladesh U-23 a 1-0 lead in the series, with the second match scheduled for the same venue on August 14, followed by the series decider on August 16.
