Hasan claims six-fer as Bangladesh rout Australia under 200

Hasan Mahmud claimed a career-best six-wicket haul as the Bangladesh pacers routed Australia for 198 in the first innings in the post-lunch session on Day 1 of the first Test at the Marrara Stadium in Darwin on Thursday.

The Bangladesh pace trio put on an exhibition, with Hasan leading the charge with figures of 6-55 followed by Ebadot Hossain’s 2-39 and Taskin Ahmed’s 2-55.

Steve Smith, who was dropped on two, played a lone hand for Australia, making 71 while none of the other batters crossed the 30-run mark.

Australia resumed their innings post-Lunch at 183-8, with Bangladesh pacers claiming four wickets each in the first two sessions.

Smith was holding down the fort for the hosts, but his resistance ended just three overs into the final session.

Smith charged down the ground, hoping to hit Hasan over the in-field, however, he top-edged the shot and was caught by wicketkeeper Litton Das.

With the dismissal, Hasan completed his third five-wicket haul in Tests.

Hasan then achieved his career-best figures, getting Nathan Lyon caught for seven as the Australian innings ended before 200.

This is the first time Bangladesh have bundled out Australia in Tests.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and asked Bangladesh to bowl first.
