Bangladesh outplayed us in all facets: Cummins

Australia captain Pat Cummins conceded his side were beaten in every department as Bangladesh sealed a historic nine-wicket win in Darwin on Sunday.

"They [Bangladesh] outplayed us in all facets, they were patient and disciplined," Cummins said after his side's defeat inside the second session on Day four.

The pace bowler said the damage was done early, with Australia unable to recover from a poor start to the Test, referring to the hosts getting rolled over for a mere 198 in the first innings after opting to bat first.

Bangladesh then reached 96-1 at stumps.

"Probably that Day 1,” he said when asked where Australia lost the match. “I thought our preparation was spot on, no excuses. They played well.”

Cummins admitted his side had failed on both fronts across the four days.

"We had to find a way to bat longer and then we couldn't penetrate with the ball," he said.

Asked about the batting struggles, Cummins said Australia would review their approach before the next match.

"Every time there's a game like this, you look at match-ups. We've just finished the game, so we'll think about it," he said.

He backed his side to respond strongly heading into the second Test.

"We're pretty good at bouncing back," Cummins said.

Amid all the negatives, Cameron Green’s fighting century in the second innings was a bright spot for the hosts. Cummins pointed to Green's control as a key positive to take from the defeat.

"Green's tempo showed how good he is, he needed couple of us to hang in with him," he said.
