Shoriful strikes twice as Bangladesh hit back

Updated on

Shoriful Islam struck twice in one over and Taskin Ahmed claimed one wicket as Bangladesh made some early inroads after capitulating for 64 in the first innings in the second session of the opening day of the second Test at the Great Barrier Reef in Mackay on Saturday.

Taskin was the first to strike, getting Matt Renshaw caught at slip for eight. Shoriful replaced Hasan Mahmud in the attack, who was uncharacteristically erratic with his line and length, and made an immediate impact.

First, he removed Travis Head, getting him to play on a in-coming delivery on to his stumps for 22. In the same over, he clipped Marnus Labuschagne’s thigh pad and the ball then trickled into his leg stump, removing him for four.

Steve Smith and Cameron Green are batting on six and one respectively as Australia have reached 50-3 at Tea, still trailing by 14 runs.

Earlier in the session, Bangladesh lost their remaining four wickets for 29 runs to be bowled out for just 64 after being sent to bat first.

Mitchell Starc claimed 6-12 while Shoriful, batting at No.11, top scored with 14.
