Hridoy, Jaker back in Bangladesh squad for one off Afghanistan Test
Bangladesh have announced their squad for a one off Test against Afghanistan, scheduled to begin on October 9 in the United Arab Emirates, with Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali Anik both recalled to the side.
Taskin Ahmed and Amite Hasan have been left out of the final squad, with Najmul Hossain Shanto continuing as captain for what will be Bangladesh's latest challenge in the longer format of the game.
Hridoy's recall comes on the back of a stunning knock for Bangladesh 'A' in South Africa, where he struck a record breaking unbeaten innings of 350, the highest first class score ever recorded by a Bangladeshi batter.
Jaker's own form in that same fixture hardly went unnoticed either, with the middle order batter contributing 94 as Bangladesh 'A' amassed a mammoth 676 for 6 in a drawn encounter played at Potchefstroom.
The batting unit sees Tanzid Hasan, Shadman Islam and Soumya Sarkar named alongside seasoned campaigners Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das.
Hridoy and Jaker are expected to occupy the middle order, having both earned recalls following their respective omissions in recent selection cycles, with the pair now tasked with strengthening Bangladesh's batting depth against Afghanistan.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been included as the squad's frontline all rounder, offering support to left arm spinner Taijul Islam within a spin attack that remains central to Bangladesh's plans in these conditions.
The pace bowling responsibilities fall to Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam, forming a four man seam contingent expected to lead Bangladesh's attack throughout the Test.
Off spinner Nayeem Hasan, along with pacers Mushfik Hasan and Iqbal Hossain Emon, have been named as travelling reserves.
