Another injury for Litton Das after elbow contusion keeps him out of keeping
Litton Das has sustained a contusion to his right elbow in the first Test against West Indies at Mirpur, ruling him out of wicketkeeping on Thursday. Jaker Ali Anik has taken the gloves, with the injured batter being monitored.
Injuries have become a recurring problem for the wicketkeeper batter, who was in doubt for the Test with a hip joint problem that kept him out of the recent tri nation series. He was named in the XI regardless, amid concerns about his fitness.
Litton faced 88 balls for an unbeaten 34, with four fours, though it was evident his hip was still bothering him. West Indies bowled Bangladesh out for 272 in 97.3 overs shortly before lunch on day two, after resuming on 213 for three.
Balls from the West Indies pacers struck Litton’s right elbow on at least two occasions, leaving the area bruised. A contusion may show little from the outside but can damage the tissue beneath, and combined with his hip trouble it left him unable to keep wicket.
Jaker Ali, who was outside the playing XI, practised wicketkeeping during the lunch break, which more or less confirmed that Litton would not keep. Litton batted on despite the blow but could not take the field. Jaker has since taken over behind the stumps.
National team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed the injury in a release.
“Litton Das has sustained a contusion to his right elbow after being struck while batting in Bangladesh’s first innings. He is being observed. Jaker Ali Anik is the substitute wicketkeeper.”
No further details have been given about the severity of the injury, how long he might need to recover or when he could return to wicketkeeping. West Indies were 50 for one after 15 overs in reply at the last count, with Jaker keeping.
