Shadman completes ton, then departs as Day 2 begins in Mirpur
It took Shadman Islam just two deliveries to complete the century that evaded him on the opening day, but he couldn’t stretch his innings much further, departing for 105 as the second day of the first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies begins at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
Off-spinner Joshua Bishop started the second day’s proceedings with Shadman on strike. His second delivery drifted down to Shadman’s pads, which the batter worked away for a couple of runs to complete his third Test ton.
On Day 1, Shadman had batted through the day and finished on an unbeaten 99, after two bad light stoppages in the final session.
But he didn’t hang around for much longer, getting trapped LBW by Bishop. He reviewed the decision, unsuccessfully.
Tawhid Hridoy, retired hurt the previous day on 42, came to the crease but departed without adding a run, clean bowled by Bishop after missing a wild slog across the line, as Bangladesh lost two wickets in the morning and were reduced to 221-5.
Bangladesh's last recognised batting pair of overnight batter Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are in the middle.
