The charge sheet in the murder case of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Oprotim, son of a Comilla University (CoU) teacher, will be filed within the next two to three days, police said on Saturday.

“The investigation into the murder case is almost complete. The post-mortem report, medical documents and other necessary official papers have already been collected. From Sunday, we will formally submit the charge sheet to the court within the next two to three days,” Cumilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Anisuzzaman said at a press briefing.

Oprotim was the only child of Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor of CoU’s Bangla Department. His body was recovered from a hillock behind Magic Paradise Park, around 22 hours after he went missing, back in September.

Police arrested four people in connection with the murder. The arrested are Saiful Islam Tuhin, 19, Mojammel Hossain Fahad, 16, Kamrul Hasan, 15, and Md Siyam, 19.

The killing sparked grief and outrage across the country.

Lawyers of the Cumilla District Bar Association said they decided not to represent the accused in the murder case.

Cumilla District Bar Association President Advocate Shahidullah said, “We did not take this decision through any formal resolution. It was a spontaneous decision. We took it on humanitarian grounds. Oprotim is our son. A father can never stand against his child.”

Cumilla district police said that Oprotim may have been killed over his iPhone and that an intensive investigation is underway to determine whether there was any other motive behind the killing.

Students of Comilla University (CoU) held a human chain, describing the police press briefing as a “farce” and demanded justice.
