Ex-Air Force officer’s death: Acquaintance Dwip placed on remand for three more days

Updated on:

A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted another three-day police remand for Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, who was arrested as a suspect in the murder case of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Sauri (27).

Following an initial four-day remand, police today produced him before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) and the investigating officer requested a seven-day remand in connection with the case.

After the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahadat granted him a three-day remand.

Previously, on October 31, Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas had granted a four-day remand for the accused.

Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam, an official from the General Registration Office of the court for the Uttarkhan Police Station, confirmed this to BSS.

According to the case statement, on October 27, at about 6:00pm, Tahsif Sauri left home after being called by a junior friend named Dwip.

When he did not return home late into the night, his mother contacted him repeatedly; he assured her that he would return shortly.

Later, at 1:35am, a voice message was sent from his phone to his mother’s phone via Messenger, stating, "I have left; I am on my way." However, he did not return, even by the following afternoon.

On October 28, at about 5:20pm, the River Police informed the family that Tahsif’s body had been recovered from the Turag River, near the Rajarbari Ghat area in Uttarkhan.

Following a preliminary autopsy at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital, they handed over the body to the family on the afternoon of October 29. After the necessary religious formalities, Tahsif was laid to rest on the afternoon of October 29 at a graveyard in sector 12 in Uttara.

KM Enayetul Karim, father of Tahsif, filed a murder case with Uttarkhan Police Station on October 31 in this connection.
