Bangladesh pitches billion-dollar investment opportunities to global investors in Doha

Updated on:

Bangladesh has pitched investment opportunities in renewable energy, LNG infrastructure, ports and manufacturing to global investors at the World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha, seeking to attract developers, financiers and regional partners to major infrastructure projects.

According to a press release issued by Invest Bangladesh on Monday, around 100 institutional investors, global financiers and representatives of investment promotion agencies attended a session titled “Invest in Bangladesh: The Billion-Dollar Opportunity Hiding in Plain Sight”.

The presentation, delivered by Nahian Rahman Rochi, member of Invest Bangladesh and head of its Investment Development Division, highlighted industrial-scale solar projects on government land, LNG infrastructure, the proposed Chattogram Free Trade Zone, port facilities and the Matarbari green dockyard.

Investment opportunities in electronics, advanced textiles and medical devices were also presented, with Bangladesh highlighting its young workforce, competitive operating costs and domestic market as potential advantages for investors.

“Investors wanted to understand how they could participate in the projects we presented,” Rochi said, adding that regional partners had also shown interest in exploring opportunities in economic zones, ports and dry docks.

He said follow-up discussions would focus on the requirements of individual projects and how investors, operators and financing partners could work together.

Invest Bangladesh Chairman Ashik Chowdhury said the agency had 15 industrial-scale solar projects in its pipeline, which it plans to advance through public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the coming months.

Speaking at a ministerial panel on the first day of the forum, Chowdhury outlined how the integration of investor identification, site preparation, policy coordination and PPP structuring could help turn renewable energy priorities into investable projects. He also discussed the Sonagazi solar PPP project on underutilised government land as a potential model for replication.

At a separate ministerial roundtable, Chowdhury called for greater recognition of the development impact of investments in emerging economies. He proposed that the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) showcase successful investments and explore risk-sharing mechanisms based on investment guarantees and export credit models.

Invest Bangladesh also held bilateral meetings with prospective investors and participated in discussions on improving coordination among investment promotion agencies.

The World Investment Forum 2026, organised by UNCTAD and hosted by Qatar, is being held in Doha from October 25 to 27.

The press release did not disclose the value of investments secured, signed agreements or final investment decisions arising from the discussions. The opportunities presented therefore represent potential investment projects rather than confirmed investment inflows.
