Primary teacher recruits press for August joining as govt fixes Oct 1 start date

Amid an ongoing sit-in protest by recommended candidates demanding joining and posting within August, the government on Sunday fixed October 1 as the joining date for candidates finally selected under the Assistant Teacher Recruitment-2025 for government primary schools.

The decision was announced in a notice issued by the School-2 Branch of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

According to the notice, candidates selected against the recruitable vacant posts under the Assistant Teacher Recruitment-2025 will join the District Primary Education Office of their respective districts on October 1, 2026.

Appointment letters will be sent to the finally selected candidates in due course. After joining, they will be posted to schools and subsequently sent for professional training.

The announcement revises the ministry's position from a day earlier. On Saturday, following an emergency virtual meeting on teacher recruitment, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education had said that 14,384 recommended assistant teachers would join on October 29, after which they would be posted and provided with professional training.

Speaking after the meeting, Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain said the government was giving priority to the joining of the recommended assistant teachers, but the process had been delayed due to investigations and procedural complexities.

"We hope they will be able to join on October 29," he had said.

Meanwhile, candidates who received final recommendations under the 2025 recruitment process continued their indefinite sit-in programme in the capital on Sunday, demanding immediate joining and posting in accordance with the Recruitment Rules-2025.

The demonstration was held this morning in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, where teachers from different parts of the country gathered with banners and placards, calling for an immediate decision on their appointments.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the teachers said their joining and posting must be ensured within the current month of August in line with the recruitment rules.

They also demanded that the government issue a written notification or office order on its official website specifying the exact dates for joining and posting.

Rejecting verbal assurances and statements made through the media, the recommended candidates said they would continue their previously announced indefinite sit-in programme until their demands are met.
