61-year-old Aamir Khan to play 25-year-old in ‘Lalkaara’
At 61, Aamir Khan is set to portray a 25-year-old in Ashutosh Gowariker’s upcoming sports drama ‘Lalkaara’, which is based on the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series.
The film marks a reunion between Gowariker and Khan more than two decades after their acclaimed cricket drama ‘Lagaan’. According to a report by Filmfare, Khan has already begun planning a strict diet and weight-loss regime to portray the younger character on screen.
‘Lagaan’, released in 2001 and set against the backdrop of British India, went on to make a major impact internationally with its cricket-based story. The reunion of Gowariker and Khan for another cricket-focused project has therefore generated interest among audiences.
Khan has previously undergone significant physical transformations for roles in films such as ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Dangal’, earning praise from fans for his commitment to character preparation.
Meanwhile, there had been speculation that Farhan Akhtar would act in ‘Lalkaara’. However, he dismissed the reports as rumours.
Speaking to Variety India, Farhan clarified that he was never formally attached to the project, so there was no question of him leaving it.
Although he will not act in the film, Farhan remains closely associated with the project. He is producing ‘Lalkaara’ under Excel Entertainment alongside Ritesh Sidhwani.
The full cast and the film’s final release date have yet to be officially announced.
