Salman Shah’s mother calls for Dolly Johur, others to be questioned

Updated on

Salman Shah’s mother Neela Chowdhury on Sunday called for actress Dolly Johur and several others to be questioned as witnesses in the long-running murder case involving her son, following the detention of actor Ashraful Haque, better known as Don Haque.

Don, an accused in the case, was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 10. Neela said actor Dipjol helped authorities apprehend him and argued that Dipjol should also be questioned as a witness because of his knowledge of the film industry at the time of Salman Shah’s death.

Neela also named Dolly Johur and Badal Khondkar, saying they were aware of important details surrounding Salman’s death. She said Dolly had spoken publicly about the incident at different times and should therefore be questioned. Neela also said she could bring accusations against Dolly if she deemed it necessary.

She further questioned how Don, an accused in a murder case, was able to attend the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association election at the FDC and cast his vote. She alleged that Shiba Sanu and others welcomed him and questioned who was protecting him.

Neela also said her brother Kumkum had received threats following Don’s arrest. She added that Salman’s fans had faced threats as well and called for the remaining accused to be arrested and the case brought to trial without further delay.

Meanwhile, the Salman Shah Fans’ Unity Alliance organised a human chain in front of the Press Club on August 15. Fans from all 64 districts joined the protest, demanding a speedy judicial process.

The alliance’s coordinator Sazid Kamal said the fans want Don to be remanded and questioned. He also called for Salman’s former wife Samira Haque, another accused in the case, to be arrested along with the remaining accused.

A murder case was filed in court last year, 29 years after Salman Shah’s death, naming 11 people as accused. They are Samira Haque, Don Haque, Samira’s mother Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rezvi Ahmed, also known as Farhad.
