Samia Afrin remains hopeful as she undergoes chemotherapy

Television presenter and actress Samia Afrin, who has been battling cancer for the past five years, has shared a message of faith and hope as she undergoes treatment for a recurrence of the disease.

Afrin, who previously overcame colon cancer, was recently diagnosed with cancer in her uterus. She is currently undergoing regular chemotherapy after doctors detected the new cancer around three months ago and performed surgery soon afterwards.

In a social media post on August 30, Afrin reflected on how she has been trying to view life differently amid her ongoing treatment.

“Life teaches us to see every situation from a new perspective,” she wrote. “Perhaps nothing in the universe happens without a reason. Every event carries some form of goodness behind it.”

She added, “I believe that every test and blessing from Allah teaches us to become more mature, more humane and better people. May Allah’s mercy and blessings always be showered upon us all.”

Afrin had earlier revealed her latest diagnosis in an emotional social media post on August 23. Following several tests, doctors told her she had high-grade carcinoma. She is now receiving chemotherapy on their advice.

Her current treatment differs from her first experience with cancer. When she was initially diagnosed, she did not require chemotherapy and instead underwent immunotherapy before recovering.

“I have been fighting cancer for the past five years,” Afrin wrote. “The first time, I did not need chemotherapy. I underwent immunotherapy. So, this experience is a little different for me.”

She has also spoken about the possibility of losing her hair as a result of chemotherapy. Rather than becoming distressed by the prospect, Afrin said she had chosen to accept the change.

“The doctor said that I may lose my hair because of chemotherapy,” she wrote. “So, instead of feeling sad about it, I have decided to accept it with a smile. There is no benefit in being upset about everything. The important thing is to be able to adapt to oneself with time.”

Before her hair begins to fall out, Afrin chose to have a new haircut as she prepares herself for the changes ahead.

Reflecting on her experience, she wrote, “Only those who have gone through this journey know how difficult this battle is. I truly do not want any person close to me to ever have to go through such a journey.”

She also asked her followers to pray for her recovery.

“Please pray for me,” she wrote. “May Allah make everything easier. I hope I can maintain my strength this time as I did before and return to my normal life very soon. Keep me in your prayers.”

In her latest message, Afrin continued to emphasise faith and hope as she undergoes treatment.
