Malaysian PM Anwar surprises diplomats with Bollywood song performance at BRICS dinner
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim surprised diplomats during his official visit to India for the BRICS Summit by performing a classic Bollywood song.
Anwar was seen singing the Hindi song “Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat” at a hotel in New Delhi, accompanied by a pianist.
The song was written by legendary lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and sung by Kishore Kumar for the 1965 Bollywood film Teen Deviyan. It was composed by SD Burman.
Anwar posted a video of the performance on his official Facebook page with the lighthearted caption: “Guru minta izin nyanyi kejap ok!” which means, “Teacher, requesting permission to sing for a bit!”
Indian media described the performance as a glimpse into Anwar’s long-standing admiration for Hindi cinema and its music.
Anwar sang the same song during his visit to India in 2024.
