Rani Mukerji’s mother Krishna Mukerji dies at 75

Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji’s mother, Krishna Mukerji, died on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 75, according to a statement issued by production company Yash Raj Films.

In the statement, Yash Raj Films said, “On Tuesday afternoon, Rani Mukerji’s mother, Smt Krishna Mukerji, passed away at the age of 75. The family is grateful for your love, prayers and support during this difficult time. We request that the family’s privacy be respected during this period of deep grief.”

Krishna was frequently seen with Rani and the family at various events in recent years. Rani has spoken on several occasions about her close relationship with her mother.

Krishna Mukerji was also associated with the Bengali film industry and sang in several films. She was a trained classical singer.

Rani’s first Hindi film, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, came after an acting offer from producer Salim Akhtar, a friend of her father.

Speaking about the decision in a recent interview, Rani said her mother had advised her to pursue acting.

“Ma may have made this decision to improve our financial situation to some extent. Their hope was that if I did good work, it would benefit everyone in our family,” Rani said.
