Roid enters Oscar race from Bangladesh

Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s film Roid has been selected as Bangladesh’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards and will compete in the Best International Feature Film category, with the announcement made at a press conference in Dhaka on Sunday.

Five films were submitted for consideration this year: Nurul Alam Atique’s Manusher Bagan, Sumon’s Roid, Redoan Rony’s Domm, Mohammad Tauquir Islam’s Delupi and Akash Haque’s The University of Chankharpul.

Four films advanced to the preliminary selection before Roid was ultimately chosen as Bangladesh’s official entry.

The film explores the timeless and primal nature of love through themes of love and silence, while reflecting on human evolution.

Roid stars Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi in the two central roles.
