Aurthohin’s Oshomapto 1 lineup reunites after 15 years
Aurthohin’s classic Oshomapto 1 lineup reunited on stage at Dhaka’s InterContinental on Friday, nearly 15 years after Saidus Salehin Khaled Khaled Sumon, Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Shishir Ahmed and Rafa last performed together.
The reunion took place at a show organised by Dhaka Broadcast to celebrate Rafa’s album Eto Boka Keno Tumi. The appearance soon turned into a nostalgic trip through Aurthohin’s early music, with the four musicians performing together for more than an hour.
The lineup formed the core of Aurthohin behind the band’s 2008 album Oshomapto 1, a release that became influential among a generation of Bangladeshi music listeners.
Songs including Oshomapto, Anmone and Odbhut Shei Cheleti brought back memories for longtime fans, while younger listeners got their first opportunity to see the musicians behind the recordings perform together.
The audience repeatedly joined Sumon during the songs, turning the performance into a shared celebration of Aurthohin’s music.
The Oshomapto 1 lineup emerged when Aurthohin returned in 2008 following a five-year break after the release of ‘Dhrubok’. The band later released Oshomapto 2, but Kamal and Rafa eventually left, while Shishir departed in 2023 before returning to the band this year.
Kamal is now a member of Warfaze, while Rafa performs with his own band, AvoidRafa. Rafa, who left Aurthohin in 2015, had long wanted to bring the four musicians together again.
After years of pursuing separate musical paths, that reunion finally happened at the InterContinental, giving both longtime fans and a younger generation the chance to experience the classic lineup together.
The evening also featured collaborations beyond the reunion. Pritom Hasan joined Rafa for Cholo Arekbar Ure, while Rafa’s elder brother Sadi Muhtafi performed Ami Akash Pathabo with him.
