'I never wear it': Sarah Jessica Parker on keeping Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe archived

Updated on:

Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed that she has never worn any of Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic Sex and the City outfits since the HBO series ended, despite keeping the wardrobe as an archive.

Parker, who played Bradshaw in the series from 1998 to 2004, told People in a recent interview that she still owns the clothes but has never worn them outside the role.

“No, I don’t wear any of the wardrobe that I wore on the show ever. I have it. It’s an archive, but I never wear it. I never have,” Parker said.

The actress explained that wearing the one-of-a-kind outfits would feel too much like wearing a costume because they are so closely associated with her character.

“There’s a huge separation between myself and Carrie Bradshaw. So it would be like walking around in Sarah Sanderson’s costume,” she said, referring to her character from ‘Hocus Pocus’. “It doesn’t seem applicable to my life.”

Parker played Bradshaw in the original series, which ran from 1998 to 2004, before reprising the role in two films and the spinoff series ‘And Just Like That…’, which ran from 2021 to 2025.

With the spinoff now complete, Parker has also bid an emotional farewell to the character who defined much of her career.

“Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,” Parker wrote on social media after the spinoff ended.

“I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.”

Parker added that “this chapter is complete” and described ‘And Just Like That…’ as a “joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work” alongside what she called “the most extraordinary talent of 380”, including the actors who joined the series.
