U20 coach Jones ‘fearful for life’ after salary ordeal, BFF call it ‘unfortunate’

Bangladesh Under-20 men’s football team coach Gerard Jones complained of delays in his salary payment and then unexpected banking issues when the funds were transferred, while the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) accused the coach of “misrepresenting” the situation.

Jones first raised the issue on social media with a post at around 11:00 AM, saying he was yet to receive his salary.

“Waiting for my salary. I can’t transfer funds out to feed my wife and children. Constant complications. I’m fearful for my life and scared,” he wrote.

The BFF president responded to the post with a text shared to the media, saying the problem will soon get resolved.

“I saw. It’s unfortunate, but I must respect his freedom of speech. It’s unfortunate because the entire situation is misrepresented by him. Anyways, it’s resolving soon,” Tabith said.

At around 1:00 PM, Jones posted a video, saying he was feeling ‘gutted’ and that two others were also dealing with a similar situation, although he didn’t disclose their names.

About an hour later, Jones posted another update, saying he has received his payment but is now facing bank-related problems.

“Now dealing with banking issue, as I have received funds but there are other challenges, further complications have arisen which I had not previously been made aware of.

“I also have serious concerns about the way some of my personal financial information has been communicated and shared.

He also complained of people approaching his vehicle and “banging on it” to ask him for money.

Jones spoke about feeling “overwhelmed, vulnerable and alone”.

“I'm hoping everything is resolved as I just want to do my job without worries,” he concluded.

The BFF had hired him as its youth development coach on June 13, 2026, on a two-year contract.

He is currently overseeing a training camp of the national U-20 team in Jashore.
