Hamza Choudhury closing in on Sheffield United return

Bangladesh international Hamza Choudhury is reportedly closing in on a permanent return to Sheffield United, with the midfielder set to leave Leicester City before Tuesday's transfer deadline, according to English media reports.

A medical was understood to be scheduled for Sunday, with an effectively free deal in place between the clubs.

Sheffield United are keen to have the move finalised in time for Tuesday's Championship fixture against Bolton Wanderers, which kicks off just hours before the 11pm cut off.

The move comes after an injury to right back Femi Seriki left United short in that position, with backup Matt Doherty still finding his feet after arriving as a free agent over the summer.

United turned instead to a familiar face in Choudhury, who spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Bramall Lane and helped the club reach that season's play off final.

Leicester, who have dropped into League One following back to back relegations since Choudhury's loan spell, have reportedly been keen to move on his wages as part of their own rebuilding effort.

Choudhury, 28, has spent his entire career at Leicester after joining the club at the age of seven. Following two loan spells at Burton Albion, he broke into the first team in 2017 and has since made 166 senior appearances for the club.

He spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Watford before returning to help Leicester secure promotion to the Premier League in 2024. He then joined Sheffield United on loan the following season, narrowly missing out on another promotion as United lost the play off final to Sunderland.

The midfielder featured in Leicester's opening three matches of this season under head coach Russell Martin, but was left out of the squad for recent fixtures against Ipswich Town and MK Dons. The former England Under 21 international had also been linked with a move to Derby County before Sheffield United's interest firmed up.
