Hamza completes move to Sheffield United after 21 years at Leicester

Bangladesh international Hamza Choudhury has left Leicester City after 21 years, joining Sheffield United permanently on a one-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old midfielder returns to Bramall Lane after impressing during a loan spell with the Championship club in 2025, making 19 appearances as United advanced to the play-off final.

The move brings an end to Hamza's long association with Leicester, where he joined the academy at the age of seven and progressed through the ranks to make 165 first-team appearances.

“It's a big change for me. I've been at Leicester for 21 years now, so it's a change for me and my family, but one I'm really looking forward to,” Hamza said.

The versatile midfielder made his senior debut against Liverpool in the League Cup and later made his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur. He won the FA Cup with Leicester in 2021 and the Championship title in 2024.

Hamza said his previous experience at Sheffield United helped convince him to make the move permanent.

“I'm very excited. It's somewhere I really enjoyed my time last time I was here, so I'm really happy to get it over the line,” he said.

United manager Chris Wilder was also a key factor. Hamza worked with Wilder at Watford and said he had remained in contact with the coach since their time together.

“I've worked with the manager for a short period at Watford, and I really love playing under him,” Hamza said.

Wilder believes Hamza's previous spell at the club showed exactly what he could offer, particularly his energy, determination and versatility.

“During the last 10 games of his first spell here, he was arguably our best player, which included the play-off semifinals and final,” Wilder said.

“He's a winner, he's played at the highest level. He knows what it takes to be successful, and he'll be a real driving force within the dressing room,” he added.

Leicester also wished Hamza well after his departure, highlighting his rise from a seven-year-old academy prospect to an FA Cup winner and Championship champion.
