Bishwanath ruled out of ASEAN Cup with injury
Bangladesh defender Bishwanath Ghosh has been ruled out of the ASEAN Cup with a hamstring injury on Monday.
The 27-year-old is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks and has already left the national team camp ahead of the tournament.
The injury comes as a fresh blow for the team just days before their departure for the FIFA ASEAN Cup, which will be held in Indonesia from September 24 to October 5, with Bangladesh set to fly to Indonesia on September 19.
Bishwanath had also suffered a knee injury in a FIFA friendly against Bhutan two years ago, which kept him sidelined for around a year and a half.
He returned to the national team in March in a match against Vietnam, and went on to feature against Singapore and San Marino. His latest setback means he will miss the ASEAN Cup squad after only recently returning to fitness.
Bishwanath's injury adds to a growing list of concerns for Bangladesh. Captain Jamal Bhuyan has missed training for the last few days due to a leg muscle strain, while experienced defender Topu Barman is in recovery from a minor injury. Winger Foysal Ahmed Fahim is also nursing an injury.
