Hamza joins Bangladesh team for ASEAN Cup

Bangladesh’s star footballer Hamza Choudhury has joined the national side in Jakarta on Monday ahead of the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.

“Hamza Choudhury has joined the Bangladesh national football team to take part in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026,” the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirmed.

Hamza arrived from England, where he recently switched from Leicester City FC to Sheffield United in the Championship League – the second division of English club football.

He is the biggest name of the 23-man Bangladesh squad selected by head coach Thomas Dooley. 

The national side had landed in Jakarta on Sunday following a training camp in Dhaka.

Other overseas-based footballers like Shamit Shome, who currently plays for New York Cosmos, and first-time called-up Farhaan Ali Wahid from Boreham Wood FC is yet to join.

Bangladesh’s campaign in the ASEAN Cup will begin against Malaysia on September 25.

The men in red and green will then take on Singapore and Indonesia on September 28 and October 1, respectively.
