Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson hails Tarique Rahman’s visit, says leaders agreed on strategic planning

China on Friday described Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s four-day official visit as a success, saying the two countries had reached broad consensus on elevating bilateral relations and agreed to build a “China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.”

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, all met separately with Rahman during his visit, which concluded Friday.

Guo said the meetings featured “in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest,” resulting in “broader-based common understandings” and “a series of practical cooperation results.”

“The visit forms the new strategic planning for the development of China-Bangladesh relations,” Guo said, outlining what he described as three major highlights.

First, he said, the leaders agreed to strengthen political mutual trust by building a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future. The two sides pledged to continue firmly supporting each other’s core interests, expand exchanges on governance experience and deepen political cooperation.

Guo said China supports Bangladesh’s new government in advancing national governance, while Bangladesh reiterated its “firm commitment to the One China principle,” which recognizes Beijing as the sole legal government of China.

Second, Guo said both countries agreed to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation by advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and better aligning their development strategies.

He said the two sides will steadily implement major infrastructure projects, including water conservancy initiatives, while expanding cooperation in trade, industrial and supply chains, finance, new energy, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, information and communications technology, and regional connectivity.

According to Guo, multiple cooperation documents were signed during the visit, reflecting the two countries’ commitment to broadening economic and technological ties.

He added that the visit demonstrated the strong momentum of China-Bangladesh relations and underscored both governments’ commitment to translating high-level political consensus into practical cooperation.

Rahman’s visit marked one of the highest-level exchanges between Dhaka and Beijing since Bangladesh’s new government assumed office and comes as both countries seek to deepen economic, infrastructure and strategic cooperation amid evolving regional dynamics.
