3 die of dengue, 251 fresh cases reported

At least three people died and 251 more were hospitalised with dengue across Bangladesh in the 24 hours until Wednesday morning, with the highest number of new patients reported in the southwestern Barishal region, health officials said.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 66 of the newly hospitalised patients were admitted to hospitals in Barishal Division, the highest among all regions.

Of the remaining cases, 40 were reported in Chattogram Division, 19 in Dhaka Division outside the capital, 24 in areas under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 33 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 40 in Khulna Division, 15 in Mymensingh Division, 13 in Rajshahi Division and two in Sylhet Division.

With the latest fatalities, the death toll from dengue this year has risen to 22, while the cumulative number of reported cases has reached 7,557.

Last year, dengue claimed 413 lives and infected 102,861 people across the country.

In 2024, the mosquito-borne disease killed 575 people and infected 101,214 others.
