Bangladesh's measles death toll rises to 797

Four more children died with symptoms consistent with measles in the 24 hours to 8am on Tuesday, bringing Bangladesh's combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 797.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) classified the latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths.

With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 702, while the number of laboratory-confirmed deaths remains unchanged at 95.

During the reporting period, the DGHS recorded 878 new suspected measles cases, taking the nationwide total to 119,448.

The country also reported 130 new laboratory-confirmed infections, raising the cumulative number of confirmed measles cases to 14,708.

Since 15 March, a total of 102,244 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 98,411 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
