Three die as Bangladesh logs 534 new dengue cases

Health authorities on Wednesday reported 534 new dengue cases and three deaths in the 24 hours ending that morning, taking the country's death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 50 this year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), of the newly hospitalised patients, 131 were admitted in Dhaka division (excluding the two city corporations), 71 in Chattogram division, 68 in Barishal division, 65 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 56 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 45 in Khulna division, 37 in Mymensingh division, 30 in Rajshahi division, 26 in Rangpur division and five in Sylhet division.

With the latest figures, the total number of dengue cases recorded in Bangladesh this year has risen to 14,690, while the death toll stands at 50, the DGHS said.

Last year, dengue claimed 413 lives and infected 102,861 people across the country.

In 2024, the disease caused 575 deaths and infected 101,214 people.
