471 new dengue cases reported in 24 hrs
Bangladesh recorded 471 new dengue cases in the 24 hours until Thursday morning, taking the total number of infections this year to 17,880, health officials said.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), of the new patients, 53 were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 64 in Chattogram, 86 in Dhaka division, 80 in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area, 74 in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area, 50 in Khulna, 23 in Mymensingh, 26 in Rajshahi, 12 in Rangpur and three in Sylhet.
The DGHS said Bangladesh has so far recorded 17,880 dengue cases and 59 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease this year.
Last year, dengue claimed 413 lives and infected 102,861 people across the country.
In 2024, the disease caused 575 deaths and infected 101,214 people, according to DGHS data.
